Yesterday after work Trey surprised me by stealing me away to an exhibit at the Tampa Museum of Art! I brought my new Canon and he had his (we are a Canon couple, you see) and although we could not take any pictures inside the museum, we got to take some afterward. We found a kaleidoscope-like painted wooden ‘camera’ and we used it to take trippy pictures. Seriously, our friend Zahra later suggested we recommend its use as an alternative to drug users.
Later we took a stroll down to Ybor where we ate some tastey crepes, then visited La France for a browse (I think some time I will actually have to look at the clothes rather than the decorations all up on the ceiling. Another time!).
Anyway, if you’re curious:
MMM CREPES! Thank you boyfriend for taking me to eat crepes :)
Trey pointed out the Virgin Mary pendants, aren’t they pretty? There was so much jewelry to look at La France, and it was all beautifully lit! Below I really liked the fly (or is it a bee??) earrings and a white beetle necklace in the background.
I think what really captivates me about a collection is a strong view, classic elements and a modern or artistic take.
Ever since I have lived in Florida I have slowly started to appreciate Southern style. Now, Florida in itself is not very culturally Southern if you live near a metropolitan area, but on the other hand, it is near enough the very “Southern” states that there are enough country folks to cause influence (that’s what they call themselves, right???).
I may not care for country music much, but I can appreciate a good cowhide (and cowboy boots and petite flowers, etc)
Bringing all this into view, I really love the RL Spring collection. This is difficult to think about because it’s not even cold enough to be fall!
Tony has ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and isn’t able to move much beyond his eyes. The EyeWriter tracks his eye movements and produces either digital or physical graffiti via a robotic arm that enables Tony to continue to produce art. If you feel so inclined, get some of his work and support him and the team building these tools that can help many, many more people beyond just Tony. (Source: 1)
The boy and I went picnicking today! I made him a sandwich and I had a salad because no bread was left, and he brought some tasty fruit (grapes and strawberries! and applesauce!)
Well, before Trey and I even began our meal, we came upon something pretty fantastical. To all of human kind, you are welcome, we have done it: discovered intelligent faerie life, right at a botanical garden!
We decided not to tell the authorities and just have them live their (presumably) happy life.
Then I look a picture of Trey and me.
Then the Florida heat proceeded to kill me slowly. No picture of that one.
Bought tickets for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros for the boy and me as part of his birthday gift! I am very excited, they seem like a really fun band to watch live! I really hope I will have my camera by then, especially if the show proves good.
Check out Eddy and his band right below this post :)
Looking for some inspiration; for whatever reason lately I am turning to color, which is quite a diversion for my usual attachment to the colors black and white. Frida is by far my favorite artist. Her paintings are alive within and although tell the story of her life, the pain contained in them is universal.
It is interesting how, aside from being Mexican, these pieces of art have similar elements. Notice the flora, the nature, the patterns…

And they are really adorable while doing so. Seriously! It makes me wish I was little, chubby and missing a front tooth! But those days are gone, so it’s no use wishing (especially the chubby and missing any teeth).
Is it just me or are half of these kids wearing boots?? Do you remember wearing this many boots when you were little? It must rain a lot where they’re from…
Thursday there was some nice weather, even though still on the warm side. USF can be pretty boring, but sometimes it’s kind of pretty too, so I sat outside for a bit. Check out those anatomically correct bulls! Can’t see them? Come visit!
My companion was a pair of pointed heels that have been neglected at the back of my closet for some time. Lately chunky heels and rounded toes have been all over, but the 90’s are ever so slowly coming back, as denim shirts would strongly agree.
That very same day I went to open mic night with Valentina at Cafe Hey. There were so many talented musicians! My favorite was the first girl that performed; she sang a really pretty song that was actually a bit sad. Her voice was on the deep side and it sounded great. There was also a guy with a style that was a bit country, but he did a medley of rap songs that was hilarious. He even sang Scrubs by TLC and made all of the girls sing along! Gotta love a sing-along..
After open mic we ended up going back to Valentina’s dorm for some ice cream, and I found this sign on a room occupied by guys:
I wonder if it worked?
Also, before I leave off, I would like to comment that A) no matter what I say, I seem to always go back to coffee because it is just too good! and B) my taste buds were really confused by this no sugar, naturally flavoured water. It smelled like blueberries but tasted like filtered water. I still have it and still can’t decide how I feel about it. Anyone had it before?
